FAR MEADOW GATE
The Far Meadow is the area of Portland’s Leach Botanical Garden where children’s programming takes place. This gate was developed as a way to signify entry to the Meadow and allude to the fanciful, playful atmosphere beyond.
This project is an architectural composition of site-sourced elements, forming a portal to a new world. Deriving inspiration from the occult and the site vernacular, the gate thrusts upward to form an arch of steel and cobble. The steel is perforated with patterning meant to signify the natural state of play and creativity that exists within children, and the gateway form is light and ornamental, floating in space, inviting visitors to pass through.
